Thankful
Today, during the Children's Message at St. Stephen's, Pastor Jim asked the group a question. "How many of you want to be rich?" he asked. Not a hand went up - surprise! I'm thinking maybe they sensed it was some sort of trick question. Next, Pastor Jim asked "Would you mind being poor?" Precocious, precious, primary-schooler Nelleke answered, "No, because then I could just be thankful." Wow — Nelleke hasn't even visited our communities in El Salvador (yet). One of the things people frequently notice is how faithful and thankful the people of Guillermo Ungo are for what they have, not focusing on what they don't have. What an amazing statement by one of our young Lutherans.Comments (0) Added by Kent September 30, 2007 (3:43PM)
"California Fusion"
After Pastor Jim made the announcement about the Æbleskiver Breakfast today (10:30 service), I added to the announcement by saying how I thought this was an example of "California Fusion" -- a fundraising event at a Lutheran Church where a traditional Danish treat is prepared and served to benefit our work with our Sister Parish in El Salvador. A real global experience!Comments (0) Added by Kent September 23, 2007 (9:19PM)
About the Home Page Photo
Who are all those smiling people in blue shirts? This was our January 2008 delegation (21 strong), along with Brenda our in-country coordinator and two of our Salvadoran friends. All are modeling our first-ever delgation T-shirts (stonewashed blue with logo on the front and "Building Relationships for Better Lives", both English and Spanish, on the back).
